For many business owners, whether they’re small, large, or anything in between, these are concerning times. Maybe some parts of your business aren’t operational right now, perhaps you’re taking big losses, or maybe you can’t even open at all. Danny Star has been advising clients in all different kinds of industries throughout the crisis. There are some things for business owners, beyond just digital marketing, to keep in mind that can help them to come through this period while still growing.
Brain Power is Available, You Just Have to Shift It
This may seem a bit paradoxical, but many business owners may not be fully aware of how much “brain power” they already have on staff. In this context, “brain power” means “smart, capable, talented people with something of value to provide for your business.” In these times, it’s important to be flexible enough to see that, to give them the tools they need to do so, and then to get out of the way.
For example, restaurants are essentially closed right now for social distancing. Many have had to layoff much of if not all of their wait staff. But, you can still have those people in many contexts. Perhaps they could make videos showing how to cook some of the foods that you offer, taking pictures, and other ways of promoting your business on social media. They could assist in the kitchen, provide help with delivery, and other crucial services. You might even want to ask them about how they could help out and see if you’re surprised.
This all may sound like a bit much, but it’s worked in China. Obviously, you want to be skeptical about many of the claims about how the government there dealt with the virus, how many people were sick vs. healed, and so forth. But, what you don’t need to be skeptical about are the business success stories in China. A company called “Cosmo Lady,” which sells underwear and lingerie, got employees to promote to their social circles and created a sales ranking which included all of the employees with rewards and so forth. That’s just one idea. There are so many others.
