Getting digital marketing help (or really any kind of marketing help) is a great way to grow your business.
That said, you have to get with the right marketer/marketing company.
You know to look for someone that’s in your budget, has a track record, etc. However, something you want to look for that many don’t think about: a marketing company that’s going to grow. Specifically, a marketing company that’s going to grow with you.
After all, you probably don’t plan on hiring a marketer, taking your business to the next level, and then quitting/selling, right?
So, why would you look for a marketer that essentially operates that way?
Surprising Results from the CMO Council
“CMO Council” might sound like a group that oversees cereal production in the United States or something, but really, they’re “the only global network of executives specifically dedicated to high-level knowledge exchange, thought leadership and personal relationship building among senior corporate marketing leaders and brand decision-makers across a wide range of global industries.”
That’s a lot of words to say “they’re a group of marketers.”
Anyway, they did a study on customer loyalty.
What the study found was “43 percent of respondents called building deeper customer relationships a ‘top priority’ in the next year, (but) only 11 percent of respondents felt that their current engagement strategies were going to help them reach their long-term goals for growth, profitability, and engagement.”
Think about that.
43% of marketers said: “what we’re doing isn’t going to work for the long term.”
That’s really not much of a sales pitch, is it?
Of course, for the purposes of the study, they’re to be commended for their honesty.
That said, they aren’t exactly the kinds of marketers that you want to put your company with.
You want someone who’s going to grow with you.
The Future and the Present
You might think: “well, is it really a big deal that they’re only focused on the now? Why does that matter to my company?”
The truth is that this attitude could manifest in the ways that you don’t necessarily see.
Maybe they’re just trying to “juice numbers over the short term.” Perhaps they’re one of those companies that does a whole lot of work when you initially sign up, then level off once they realize “they have you.”
That may not seem like a big deal at first, but one of the main goals of working with a marketer or marketing company is continual growth.
A marketing company that isn’t growing with you is one that might be withering with you.
