The Right Mindset for TikTok Marketing

Danny Star

Has it been a bit of a struggle getting your TikTok marketing to where you want it to be? Or, are you like so many others in that you want to start marketing on TikTok but don’t know how to do so? Danny Star and the team here can’t say it enough: marketing on TikTok is different from marketing on other platforms. TikTok users want to be entertained, they want to have fun, far more so than they want to be sold something.

So, this is why we’re always suggesting that, when considering how to portray your brand on TikTok, you don’t want things to be too “perfect.” You want something relatable, something fun. We’ve found that, often, it comes down to mindset.

One Phrase to Keep in Mind

TikTok can be intimidating. If you’re new to it, if it feels alien to you, then sure, it can seem more challenging than many of the other platforms. Perhaps paradoxically, that can come out in your TikToks. Thus, there’s one thing to keep in mind as you’re making them: “if it’s fun for you to make, it’ll be fun for them to watch.”

That doesn’t mean that you can just goof around with your colleagues and that will magically turn into a successful TikTok. But what it does mean is that you always want to keep some element of fun in what you’re doing. You don’t want to be too serious on TikTok.

When people are having fun creating something, that can come through. Particularly so on a platform like TikTok, where it’s so important to be relatable. If you spend any time on the platform, you’ll be able to tell the difference between a content creator who’s having fun and a content creator who’s simply creating content.

That doesn’t mean that you should ignore putting together an interesting video, being on brand, and so forth. But, it does mean that having a good time when making a TikTok can carry your TikTok marketing a long way.
