The Secret to Being Ahead of Trends

ds

“I don’t want to chase trends, I want to be ahead of them.”

That’s something Danny Star and the team here have been told, in one form or another, by many business owners.

It makes sense as to why.

After all, if you’re ahead of the trends, you can reap the rewards.

If you’re behind them, chasing them, then you may be throwing good money after bad.

Even with the best digital marketing knowledge, you can’t predict the future. You can’t know with 100% certainty what’s going to be big tomorrow, the day after that, or even tonight.

But, there is one way that you can give yourself the best chance to do so.

Agility

It was important to be “agile” as a company last year during the beginning of the pandemic.

It’s just as important now, just in a different way.

To use one example from our business: TikTok.

There are many who feel that TikTok is a fad, one that will fade soon enough.

However, it may very well be, as this article states, the “future of digital marketing.”

In that article, there’s a brief anecdote about how celebrity Miley Cyrus ordered a burrito from Chipotle.

Then, “Tiktok users began an ‘If Miley Cyrus comments, I’ll do something’ challenge.”

To capitalize on this, Chipotle made a video about it.

Miley Cyrus saw it, commented, and Chipotle made the burrito a menu item for a limited time.

Look at all of the moving parts here, in this great example of a company being agile.

Chipotle saw that their product was involved in something that went viral. They threw together a video and then made it a menu item.

It’s easy to say: “oh, Chipotle is an enormous company, they can do that sort of thing.”

The real story here is that Chipotle was agile enough to respond to this.

When they saw a trend go their way, they were immediately able to hop on it.

That doesn’t mean that your company has to wait until a world-famous celebrity uses your product or service.

But, it does mean that your company can get involved with TikTok, Instagram, podcasting, or anything similar.

You can take a tweet and make it into a blog post. Take a blog post and make it into a video. Take the topic of a video and make it into a podcast. That’s the kind of agility that can allow you to jump on any “trend” because you’re always prepared.
